Large portions of Ahihi-Kinau
Natural Area Reserve, managed by the Department of Land and Natural Resources, closed August 1 for two years while bureaucrats figure out how to protect the fragile reserve, formally establish and mark trails, delete trails, post new educational signs, and prepare baseline measurements. The anchialine pools will be blocked from encroachment. Ahihi Bay will remain open but the popular Kalaeloa cove (the "Aquarium") and Mokuha (the "Fishbowl") will be closed to entry. Leave it to the State to figure out how to make a two-month project last two years...and cut off access to a public shoreline!
